With the holidays upon us the second graders have had the pleasure of working in Piskel for the last few weeks. The older grades joined in just last week. Piskel is used to create animated gifs. It is a great program that will allow students to save and come back to edit later instead of one class sitting. Look at some of the fun gifs the second graders worked to create below! The 4th and 5th graders will be uploading their final gifs to Office365 and their webpages when they come back from break.
Kindergartners are becoming masters of the mouse. It's not an easy feat when you are only using iPads outside the lab! :-) They are also logging on with their numbers and logging off before leaving class. I've noticed that some students already have their numbers memorized! I've been most impressed with how good they follow directions. This new quarter we will begin using a drawing tool so they may create a drawing to take home to you!
First graders will be doing surveys and graphing them using The Graph Club software. They will also be learning about other graphs through online activities.
Second graders are completing their story mapping using Kidspiration on the story A Bad Case of Stripes. They also had a great time using Lego Wedo's for the first time, building and coding.
Third grade has been using the Ozobot Bits for a while now. They have finally perfected the skill of calibrating and loading the bits. They are learning more about the different blocks of code and this week in particular learning about "loops!"
Welcome back to the 2017-18 school year! This is my 3rd year at Shallowford Falls. If you haven't visited this site in a while it has changed! Please, take some time to explore and see what your students are doing in detail.
What have your students been working on in technology lab? All grade levels with the exception of Kindergarten have begun working on their keyboarding skills.
Kindergarten has been working diligently on their mouse skills. It isn't easy learning to move a mouse, click, double-click, click and drag when you only have experience with a touch screen! You can help by having them practicing the skills on your home computer.
Third graders have enjoyed using LEGO WeDo and some classes have begun to experience the Ozobot Bits. Fourth grade is beginning to code their websites! This week they changed their titles and home page.
Fifth graders have visited their websites that they created last year. All webpages are available to view by clicking here or going to the 5th grade student link. They are currently learning how to use Office365 and Sway.
I look forward to another great year with your students!
